Aside from lap time, our drivers report a deeper understanding of how their car is behaving, as they more mental capacity to feel what’s going on beneath them. Usually, there are just a few small improvements needed which will create a significant lowering of lap time. Be sure your driving technique is excellent After training more than 100 drivers through our iRacing Fundamentals MasterClass and working with real-world drivers such as Tony Kanaan, we have found that most drivers need a bit of tweaking when it comes to their sim racing technique. Using someone else’s setup can be helpful, but to be on the absolute pace you’ll need to go beyond this and understand how the car is behaving, where there’s potential lap time and which aspect of the setup to change next. If you really want to get into the details and build the best iRacing setup you can, you’ll need the ability to tweak setup yourself, to perfectly suit your own style, current circuit conditions and other variables such as whether your race is a sprint or endurance.

We all have slightly different philosophies on driving style, how we prepare our car to corner, how we trail brake and how we load the car up into each bend, so it’s fair to say we all need a slightly different setup for our sim racing. That’s not to mention differences in individual driving style. Track conditions in sim racing are simulated as in the real-world and are constantly changing.
