I was in the exact same position as you are. Ok, I had to sign in to react on this, where I'm usually a Reddit lurker only. If I were to buy anything else, it's either be another S4 MK2 or a MK3. Having played and re-mapped these controls has definitely made me content. It doesn't sound like the 92, but it gives you a similar range and feel of a 92 VCF.
TRAKTOR CONTROLLER WITH 4 EQ SOFTWARE
You can do this on any controller and remap their controls, but I stick to Traktor so I have the ability to use all the other functions on the software (loop recorder, remix decks, and etc.)Īdditionally, I use the single effect bank for the "Filter:92" filters, because honestly, it's pretty damn fun. So from High, Mid-high, Mid-low (former "low" knob), and low (channel filter knob). What I've done is remapped the "channel filter knobs" in favor of making it my new "low" eq, therefore making the "low" EQ into a mid-low. In fact, I've given up my interest for as 96, and now looking for another S4 MK2, just so I can use Xone EQ. I can't think of many mixers and controllers that do this outside of the 92 and 96. It's not a bonafide 92 sound or curve, but you have the same controls to manipulate 4-bands. It does a great job separating the frequencies that it works as a 4-band EQ. The Traktor's Xone EQ isn't a perfect match, but it's a great interpretation from something that's digital and software based. So I've had first had experience using them for many occasions. My collective uses one whenever we do events.

I actually asked this question last week, but I'll give you my insight: Traktor's Xone EQ mode is pretty awesome. Not a dealbreaker as it sounds great in the mix anyway Not a big deal but just sounds a bit unnatural to me and I wondered if it was the same on the Xone. One thing I was specifically curious about was how the sound when you cut just one of the mid bands is on the Xone mixer - on Traktor, if you listen to it in isolation it sounds quite “filtered” if that makes sense - like quite a sharp curve on the EQ I guess. I just had a mix and really enjoyed the experience, it felt like I had so much more control blending the tracks (this was with some deep Italian style techno, Donato Dozzy etc, so really suited to long blends), so was curious how the real thing might compare! Hey, I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on how the Traktor “Xone” 4 band EQ mode compares to the real thing in terms of sound, frequency ranges etc.?Ĭontext is I am toying with buying a Xone:96 but thought I should try out the 4 band EQ style of mixing before buying, so mapped my controller to the 4 band EQ (using the gain knob for the high EQ).
